Being so closely linked with the US economy, as a Canadian I have an interest in who might get elected as the next President. What follows is my quick and dirty suggestions on who to elect.
DO NOT elect a Black President
DO NOT elect a Woman President
DO NOT elect a Christian President
DO NOT elect an Asian, Marxist, Capitalist, or Business Person
One of those things matter. What matters is ideas. What matters is leadership.
If you watch CNN all you seem to hear right now is whether the USA is ready for woman president (Hillary Clinton) or a Black President (Obama).
The issue isn’t ‘is the US ready for such a president’? The issue is that anyone actually considers someone’s gender or race as factors in whether someone is fit to be President.
Don’t elect a politician.
Elect a leader.
Politicians do what’s popular.
Leaders do what’s right. Whether the electorate likes it or not in the short term.
A leader is willing to think and act long-term, even if it means failure in the mid-term… meaning, not getting reelected.
Sometimes it takes years for people to realize the wisdom of a leaders actions.
True leadership is selfless.
That’s who you should elect. Find a leader and stick with them.
Then, get ready to grit your teeth, because the short-term is going to be painful.
